E-Sys System: innovation for the cargo market

A brand presents the first auxiliary traction module with electric motor for trucks in Latin America

18/10/2019

Suspensys took advantage of one of the largest road freight transport events in the world to launch the e-Sys system. The first auxiliary traction module with electric motor for trailers in Latin America was presented during the 22nd Fenatran - International Road Cargo Transport Trade Show, held in São Paulo between October 14 and 18. The e-Sys module uses an auxiliary system to recover energy generated during braking and descents, enabling the trailer to help the truck to climb uphill more effectively and safely. Depending on the application, the road conditions and the type of cargo transported, the new system generates fuel savings that can reach up to 25%, also providing less wear on the components and less waste in the environment.

Under the testing phase

Suspensys' new product is undergoing durability testing at the Randon Technological Center (CTR), a modern and state-of-the-art structure located in Caxias do Sul (RS). The e-Sys module was developed by Suspensys' own engineering, today the market leader in South America in Suspension and Axle Systems and in Travel Systems for implements, trucks and buses. The system means to the freight transport market an energy optimization solution with an innovative and disruptive profile, and appears in a moment of consolidation of Suspensys as one of the most innovative brands in the sector installed in Brazil.

The electrical storage and regeneration technology is a pioneer in Latin America and was inspired by Formula 1 cars, which use the KERS System (Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems). After two years of development with the respective engineering areas, laboratories and proving ground, when it enters the commercial scale, it will be available to the national and international equipment market for cargo transportation. It is expected to occur by 2021.

The application in road train trucks and the Brazilian rugged continental topography were determinant for Suspensys, one of the companies of the Auto Parts Division of the Randon Companies to bet on the e-Sys project, whose objective is to benefit a wide range of fleet owners. Vice President and COO of the Auto Parts Division of Randon Companies, Sérgio Carvalho highlights that this system also consolidates the example of the technological leadership of Randon Companies.

Less costs, more safety

The e-Sys module reduces the so-called Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through savings in fuel consumption and less travel time, increasing safety with the addition of the regeneration system braking. “The system operates from an electromechanical set formed by an Electronic Control Unit (ECU), battery, inverter and electric motor from WEG coupled to an axis developed exclusively for this purpose, explains Sérgio Carvalho, also highlighting the use of green technology, renewable and much less aggressive to the environment.

Intelligent Algorithm

To promote economy, the components of the e-Sys are managed by an intelligent algorithm specially created to evaluate the conditions of operation and use, allowing the implement to relieve the effort on the tractor vehicle in certain situations, such as when going uphill, for example. Esdânio Pereira, Director of Suspensys, highlights that this algorithm was specially developed by the company itself, with the support of partners, to maximize the fuel reduction and, above all, to guarantee the maximum safety of the set.

This intelligent module makes the engine work as a generator, recovering the kinetic energy and storing it in batteries that will feed the electric motor of the truck itself. The director of Technology and Innovation of the Auto Parts Division of Randon Companies and Director of the Randon Technological Center (CTR), Cesar Augusto Ferreira, reinforces the vocation for the applicability and success of the product in the national market. “The diversified characteristics of the Brazilian relief, with its irregularities on a continental scale, associated with our loading conditions and weight-to-power ratio, in addition to the load and coupling laws, constitute an ideal scenario for using the e-Sys system, which arrives to accelerate the energy optimization of the vehicle and cargo combination”.

The e-Sys traction module operates with an auxiliary system for recovering energy generated during braking and descents, enabling the semi-trailer to help the truck to drive uphill more efficiently, economically and safely. Developed for use in semi-trailers, the storage and electrical regeneration technology applied to e-Sys is a pioneer in Latin America and was inspired by Formula-1, which uses the KERS System (Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems).
